As restaurants across the New York metropolitan area continue to struggle to remain afloat during the pandemic, organizations are finding ways to help support them. Most recently, a non-profit organization called Heart to Harvest created the Restaurant Rescue Fund for independent restaurants in the New York area.

The organization plans on helping around 54,000 restaurants in New Jersey, NYC, Westchester, Nassau, and Suffolk counties. According to Heart to Harvest, grants are generally expected to starts at $25,000. A portion of the fund is reserved for micro-grants of $5,000.

The organization is accepting donations on an ongoing basis. Applications for restaurateurs will open on May 15, 2020.

Restaurant Requirements

To be eligible for a grant, restaurants must meet the following requirements:

  • Restaurants must have been open as of March 1, 2020.
  • Owners must operate no more than five restaurants across the US.
  • Restaurants must be located in NJ, NYC, Westchester, Nassau, or Suffolk counties.
  • Restaurants must be in good standing with their landlords as of March 1, 2020.

Restaurants that support small farms as defined by the USDA will be given priority for the grants.

The Restaurant Rescue Fund hopes to help support as many restaurants as possible. While we are in the midst of an unprecedented pandemic, we must continue to support and donate where we can. Because the restaurant industry is the epicenter of businesses across the country, including small farms, food distributors, paper goods, florists, wineries, and the list goes on.
